Pacific Island Dancers

Ever since my first trip to Hawaii several years ago to photography a wedding in Maui, I was fascinated by the captivating photographs of Hawaiian natives in hula outfits by famous photographer Kim Taylor Reese.

Today my dream came true. I collaborated with Spark of Creation studio in Pacifica and photographed 20 of their dancers in a variety of outfits from Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii, etc. 12 best images will be chosen for the 2008 calendar. I will post the calendar sale date on the blog when they are printed for those who are interested in purchasing one.

The photo shoot day turned out to be a beautiful sunny day as planned. The dancers were shot on a beach near Half Moon Bay. I chose that location for the blue water and the high cliffs that resembled Hawaii. The time of the shoot was in late afternoon, as I wanted the sun set to a low horizon that has a golden glow and a directional lighting. I also envisioned a warm, dreaming and vintage look, so photoshop filters were applied.
